Hallowe'en celebration

Dear parents,

The children had fun this afternoon during our Hallowe'en celebration. Thanks to parents who brought in goodies. Wow! Excellent food.

The winner of the "Dress Up a Teacher Contest" was Mr. Harris!! His tutu was something else.

Winner of the best carved Grade 7 pumpkin was Sahar.

I wish you all a safe and Happy Hallowe'en!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Hallowe'en Fun

Dear parents,

Our Hallowe'en Haunted Mansions are complete and on display in the upper hallway.
They look great!

Tomorrow is black and orange day. Remember to give your child a quarter so they can vote for their favourite teacher costume.

Please remember to bring in the goodie that you signed up for and put it on our food table for our afternoon celebration! Yummy!!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Karr and Ms. Gardiner

Games Day fun!

Dear parents,

We had such a great day today. The students, overall, are improving their focus on instruction and with the quality and quantity of work. Games time was awesome! Nayu was knitting today. What a good idea. I have a few twenty year-old projects that she can help me with next week.

You'll notice one student was a photo bomber today. I wonder who it was? LOL

Remember it's early dismissal tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2:00 PM. No spelling test  or bonus words this week.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Grade 7's Pumpkin Carving Contest

Dear parents,

Our Grade 7's will be carving pumpkins for display in the upper hallway. All students will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite pumpkin. Votes will be 25 cents each or 5 votes for $1.00.

On Thursday, a number of teachers have volunteered to be dressed up in Hallowe'en costumes by STUDENTS. Those brave teachers are Mrs. Garford, Mr. Harris, Mrs. Lund, and Miss Hoodspith. Students can vote for their favorite costume by purchasing a ticket. Cost is the same as the above, I believe.

All others are encouraged to wear any combination of orange and black on Thursday. I will proudly be wearing the orange and black of our BC Lions football team.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Building Haunted Mansions

Dear parents,

We are doing cooperative group projects for Science, building haunted mansions! Our classroom is filled with industrious architects who are designing and building  their projects. Students may ask for some help from home for things they can add on like caution tape and spider webs. We think they look fantastic!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Stop, Drop and Read

Dear parents,

Today, as part of a province-wide challenge, we dropped what we were doing and read. Mrs. Evans, our school librarian, challenged us to read for twenty minutes. Way to go Division 7!

We are doing lots of fun Hallowe'en activities this week. If you have a snack you can share for our celebration on Thursday afternoon, that would be lovely. I'm steering away from candy this year, but chips, fruit, cheese, pepperoni sticks, etc. would be great. I'll put a list by the door. Perhaps sign your name beside an item if you are available to help out. Thanks in advance for this! 😍

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Spelling words Oct. 28-Nov. 1

Dear parents,

Our spelling words for next week are a review of the previous 7 weeks. While we will be reviewing all the words, I will not be giving an official spelling test next Friday.

Our Theme Reading for this week concludes our overall theme of "Circus". Our story will be about a circus acrobat named Lillian Leitzel. Perhaps Google this name with your child and look for any information and/or pictures about her. Our words for the week are: confidence, challenge, balancing, performer, muscles, difficult, exhausting, condition and athlete. Please go over the meaning of these words with your child.

This Wednesday, we have early dismissal at 2:00 PM for staff cooperative planning. Please make arrangements to pick up your child early.

Remember it is black and orange day on Thursday. Happy Hallowe'en!!

On Friday, it is Hot Lunch (Wok Box). Yummy!

We welcome Ms. Gardener (our student teacher) to Queensbury! I met with her on Friday, and I know the children will enjoy having her here.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Quiet blog?

Dear parents,

Sorry for the quiet blog this week. I'm having problems with my vision. Hopefully, I'll be back next Monday.

I'm pleased to announce that we will be welcoming a student teacher from UBC next Monday. She will be with us for two weeks. If all goes well, she will return after Spring Break until some time in June. We welcome Ms. Gardener.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Spelling words for week of October 21-24

Dear parents,

I'm getting my eyes checked tonight and they might be fuzzy for a while, so I'm posting this a day early. Our words next week are words that have irregular plurals. They are: men, women, feet, teeth, mice, deer, sheep, elves, calves, wolves, shelves, leaves, loaves, wives, knives. Our spelling test will be on Thursday, October 24, as Friday is a Professional Day next week.

Our theme reading for next week is called Showtime, and we will be continuing our exploration about circuses and animal trainers. Our words will be: trainers, companions, caution, tame, dangerous, protection, cunning, respond, commands, intelligent. Please go over the meaning of these words with your children.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Pizza Day.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Stop, Drop, and Cover

Dear parents,

As part of the nationwide Earthquake Preparedness Program, we practiced what to do in an earthquake this morning. Our class did OK, but for our next drill I would like it to be even quieter. This is no time for silliness! Please discuss this with your children.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Dear parents,

This morning we voted on students that would represent our division at school council meetings. Congratulations go to Lily Miskowicz and Miles Maltby, who will be our representatives for first term. Thank you to all students who volunteered to run in the election.

School fees

Dear parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with your families. I cooked up a feast yesterday for my three grown children and their spouses, then ate the feast!! I'm still full!! 😉

Just a reminder that school fees are due on or before October 18, this Friday. If your child's form did not make it home, I have extras and they are available from the school office.

Please pick up a "cheap" set of ear buds (under $10) and a 2GB memory stick for this Thursday. Clearly label them with your child's name and put them in a medium sized ziploc bag. We will keep these technology items in a bin at school. We will be using them for a keyboarding program called "All the Right Type" and for a music composition program called "Garage Band" on our laptops.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

We had a lovely sharing assembly this afternoon. Thanks need to go to the Grade 7's who organized this, with Mr. Chan's help, and all intermediate students, who brought the food to share.
