Extra board games?

Dear parents,

If you have extra board games (Scrabble, Monopoly, checkers, chess etc.) at home that you could donate to our classroom, that would be super. I have promised the children that we will have a dedicated time for games between recess and lunch on Tuesdays. The focus will be on cooperative behaviour and using encouraging words when playing strategy games with others.

Thanks,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Professional Day Monday October 1

Hot lunch reminder.

Dear parents,

Just a reminder that on Friday, September 27, we have Wok Box hot lunch. We will be doing our theme reading quiz tomorrow, testing the meaning of this week's words about the Amazon. If you have time, it might be fun to google Amazon with your child and look at images or videos. We will be doing a writing sample on Friday that begins with this sentence. "Imagine you are in a canoe paddling down the Amazon. When you round a corner you suddenly see....."  I plan to show the IMAX DVD titled "Amazon" before we do our writing activity, but the more familiar they are with the environment, the more they will be able to describe it vividly.

We learned that articles a, an, and the usually precede and signal that a noun is coming up next in grammar. Ask your child for an example in a sentence.

We learned about Kelowna today and started our mind-map about this BC city. I am very proud of the work the children are doing in Social Studies.

We had another great day in Gym with our fitness program.

Tomorrow we will have a big day. The students will have their Spelling test on Lesson 2 words in the morning before recess. Please scroll back to previous blog posts to find these words. We will also be having an initial assessment of reading between recess and lunch. In the afternoon we will be doing our second writing assessment for the year. Drawing fun

Dear parents,

Your children are excellent artists. They live to draw. Today, we learned about the difference between exclamation and imperative sentences. It is an exclamation sentence when we are just excited or passionate about something as in, "I love the Canucks!"  It is an imperative sentence when we are issuing a command as in, "Close that door!" Maybe review this tonight at home.

We did another map of BC today in Social Studies, highlighting the locations for four cities: Fort Nelson, Kelowna, Ahousat, and Vancouver. We will studying each of these cities in greater detail in the weeks to come.

Happy Friday!

Dear parents,

Great first day!

Dear parents,

It was so fun to see your children after the long summer break. I think most of them grew about 6 inches!! Wow!!

Please send school supplies with them tomorrow, as it is a full day.

Although I will be sad to say goodbye as their classroom teacher, I am confident that they are more than ready to move on. I wish you and them the very best for their future years at school.

PS: a unicorn was spotted at Queensbury today after the rain at recess . I'm told his name is Emanoeil! ☺

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr
