Another great Fitness Class

Dear parents,

Our students worked very hard during fitness today. Nodin said his heart felt like a volcano and Miles had no need for hair gel!

Best wishes,

Track season has begun

Dear parents,

Track and Field has begun at Queensbury for another year. Even though this is only available to intermediate students (Grades 4-7), most primary teachers assist with coaching the various events. Our days start at 7:45 in the Long Jump pit on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. We don't finish until 8:40. It would be great if the children could play outside on these mornings until they hear the first bell. If they muddle about in the hallway outside our locked classroom door, chances are they'll get loud and impatient. They can drop their bags by the door, then go out to play. Thanks for discussing this with your child.

Miss Gardiner is teaching 100% now, and doing a fantastic job. She will be with us until June 8th. I love watching her work with the children.

Please have your child bring in a family favourite receipe. Miss Gardiner is working on a project with the class and needs this from every student.

Next week our division is in charge of cleaning up the school grounds and donating non-perishable food items for the Harvest Project. Please plan ahead and choose some items when grocery shopping this weekend so your child can place an item or two in the basket in the front foyer.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr and Miss Gardiner

Spring Fair news

Dear parents,

Mrs. Warner came into our class this morning to drop off our collection bucket for this year's Spring Fair. Our theme is "Gardening and Plants". Donations to do with this theme like tools, bulbs, and seeds will be appreciated by May 15th. Use your imaginations!

There is a sign up sheet in the teaching area where you can record your family's contribution. These "themed" buckets will be auctioned off during the raffle draw at our school's Spring Fair on May 24th.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr and Miss Debbie Gardiner

A day for Fine Arts!

Dear parents,

The children had a special day today. They danced during their Fine Arts class and were treated to an awesome trio of musicians called Infinitus. Check them out on the internet at www.infinitus.com Wow! They were splendid!

The children are doing very well under Miss Gardiner's tutelage! I love watching her work with them. The future of education is in good hands with the likes of Miss Gardiner coming up through the ranks.

Week ahead April 22-25

Dear parents,

We celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22nd, our first day back to school after Easter holiday. Please have your child bring their lunches in recyclable containers not plastic sandwich bags. Please don't include juice boxes or extra waste for this special day. If possible, have your child wear earth colours like blue, green, and white.

We'd like to wish you and your children a very Happy Easter!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr and Miss Debbie Gardiner

No new Spelling words

Dear parents,

Next week is a review week in Spelling, so we don't have any new words. There will not be a Spelling test on Thursday either.

Our Theme Reading for next week is about volcanoes. Our words are molten, refuge, active, overflows, furnace, lava, slopes, warnings, erupts, and flee. Please go over the meaning of these words with your child.

We had a great game of bum ball three corner soccer in gym this morning. We learned how beet juice and blueberry juice can be used to dye things (eggs). We planted alfalpha seeds in our eggs. Hopefully over the weekend, "hair" will begin to grow.

We used chalk pastels to create some wonderful pictures of Spring cherry blossoms on trees.

Next week, we have the Walking School Bus on Wednesday morning. Participation is, of course, optional but fun. Congrats to Cyrus for winning last week's draw. Wednesday is also Treat Day for Fun Lunch.

On Thursday, we have Sport Spirit Day and our Talent Show. Wear your Canuck jerseys or BC Lions jerseys or Whitecaps jerseys with pride. Talent show begins at 1:30 and parents are welcome to attend.

School will be closed on Friday, April 18 and Monday, April 22nd for Easter holidays.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Spring Has Sprung

Dear parents,

The class is making the transition to Miss Gardiner teaching the majority of lessons quite nicely. Please reinforce the need for excellent listening skills at all times. Thanks for your help with this.

I will be returning your child's first novel study tomorrow. I have made individual comments on a blue sheet taped to the inside of their duo tang. Please look for this and discuss this assessment with your child.

Please make sure your child has runners at school. If they wear boots to school I'd like them to change into runners once they're inside.

With nicer weather we will be outside as much as possible. Spring has indeed sprung! Yippee!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Wednesday goings-on

Dear parents,

I'm not sure if that is even a phrase any longer, but it seemed appropriate.

The children began their second novel study called "How to Eat Fried Worms" today. We hope it doesn't give them any ideas. It's a super novel which I'm sure the children will enjoy. Miss Gardiner has prepared a lot of fun activities for this study.

We visited Miss Hoodspith's class to view their pioneer village and to hear the students describe their building. Our students were very appreciative listeners.

Mrs. Evans will begin her third term unit in a Fine Arts with our students. Every Thursday until Gymnastics starts in May, she will be doing Dance in the gym with our class from 10:40-11:20.

The class added to our worm farm today by collecting twigs and leaves from Kealy Woods Park, adjacent to our school grounds.

Fun Lunch order forms came home today along with an offer for a FREE movie night. Make sure to check your child's back pack. Our Parent Council makes a lot of money from the Fun Lunch program, so I'm hopeful you support this. I do, and the food is delicious!!

Thanks to Nodin's mom, Lisa, for more great pics from our Heritage Village field trip.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Heritage Village Field Trip

Dear parents,

Wow! What a super day! The weather cooperated giving us a beautiful sunny day. Our museum teachers were absolutely wonderful and very dedicated to working at the museum.

In between sessions we had fun rolling down hills, getting piggy backs and playing our tag game called "Mayhem"!

Thank you to our parent drivers! We couldn't do this without you!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr
