Thank you

Dear parents,

We had a very good day! Thanks for talking with your children. We are a few weeks away from 1st Term report card. I want the children to show me their best work academically, and their best behaviour as we head toward this 1st report.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Science structures

Dear parents,

In Science I gave the children an individual task to build a solid structure that would be able to support the weight of 1500 grams. We discussed the importance of starting with a solid foundation and building columns for support. They did quite well with this!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Katr

No more sugar please!

Dear parents,

Today was a wild day for some children, though not all. Some were not very focused.

Please put a limit in the Hallowe'en candy. It seemed like they had way too much; their brains were like mush and mine was too by the end of the day.

Please talk with your child about the importance of listening to instruction and acting responsibly.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr

Science cooperative group work

Dear parents,

The children worked in cooperative groups to complete a "placemat" depicting four different buildings. They were assessed on their ability to work cooperatively as a group. I looked for: 1) positive, encouraging comments
2) involvement in the group's success and 3) effective clean-up of the job site. Most groups did fantastic, while a few members in a few groups imploded and will need more practice at this. It's all part of the learning process! Working as part of a team is hard work!

The children did lovely pumpkin patch pictures using chalk pastels during our weekly art lesson. They are on display in the classroom. Come in and have a look.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Mrs. Gerri Karr and Miss Gardiner

Spelling words for week of Nov. 4-8

Dear parents,

Our spelling words for next week are: picnic, poured, grapes, burned, pile, logs, ants, fire, hamburger, lemonade, sparrow, blanket, creek, awful, bananas, napkins. Our bonus words are flies and generous.  All these words will be used to write a story about a picnic.

Our theme reading next week begins our unit on imaginary characters. We will be reading about Paul Bunyan, an imaginary character in a tall tale. Our words are: campfire, ability, orchard, storyteller, wilderness, adventures, imaginary, beginnings, tale, and legends. Please go over the meaning of these words with your child.

Next week, we will be working on building bridges and skyscrapers in Science. Please have your child bring in stacks of paper to assist with these projects. If you have extra masking tape at home that you can donate to the class, that would be very helpful.

Next Friday, is Subway Day!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Gerri Karr and Miss Gardiner

Hallowe'en Fun

Dear parents,

Our Hallowe'en Haunted Mansions are complete and on display in the upper hallway.
They look great!

Tomorrow is black and orange day. Remember to give your child a quarter so they can vote for their favourite teacher costume.

Please remember to bring in the goodie that you signed up for and put it on our food table for our afternoon celebration! Yummy!!

Best wishes,

Mrs. Karr and Ms. Gardiner
